Sillence Hurn joins Save The High Street

The road to recovery and resilience in the face of COVID-19 has begun.

We were honoured to be approached by SaveTheHighStreet.org to join The High Street Industry Movement. This is a campaign to support not only businesses on the high street but also community champions, trade associations and landlords. Our role within the campaign will be to host negotiations between tenants and landlords to help ensure lasting and successful business relationships.

This is only one element of the end-to-end business care package that SaveTheHighStreet.org are providing. Following input from various independents, SaveTheHighStreet.org has launched the COVID-19 Recovery & Resilience Health-Check campaign. We would invite all independent high street businesses within our network to complete the below survey. The survey takes around 10 minutes to complete and will provide you with free, personalised information.

Update:

The Government has confirmed an extension has been put in place, until 30th September 2020, to the rent protection period for commercial tenants.

Along with the extension there is an amendment to the Coronavirus Act and the Corporate Insolvency and Governance Bill along with the introduction of a new code of practice for landlords and tenants which RICS have been closely involved with developing. This code of practice, although voluntary, is designed to encourage collaboration between landlords and tenants in the commercial property sector and “to support businesses to come together to negotiate affordable rental agreements”.

Prior to this announcement we had already joined the SaveTheHighStreet.org campaign to assist in the negotiations between landlords and tenants. This is a campaign to support not only businesses on the high street but also community champions, trade associations and landlords.
