Sillence Hurn Sailors help raise more than £17,280 for CRASH

The Sillence Hurn Sailors returned for their second annual Dragon Boat Challenge in London, raising money for CRASH – the construction and property industry’s charity.

Last week, the Construction Industry Dragon Boat Race returned for its 23rd year in aid of CRASH and the Sillence Hurn Sailors once again proved that they were up for the challenge.

Taking place at the West Reservoir Centre in Hackney, London, the team journeyed up from Southampton HQ to go head to head against 39 determined crews competing for first place.

This was Sillence Hurn’s second year fundraising for CRASH, having competed in 2022 under the name ‘Sillence Hurn Slayers’.

Returning teammates included MD Alex, Nadia, Derek, and Luke Masters – reprising his role as drummer.

Groups of up to 15 people were permitted, and joining our racing legends were several newcomers including two new department heads: Chloe Hylton and Amy Hutton.

Last year the team managed to raise over £1,000 for CRASH, coming in second and first place respectively in both heats, securing 13th place overall.

However, this year the team helped secure more than £17,280 for CRASH in what was a very close competition.

Whilst the crew got off to a rocky start in the first heat, they were determined to bring it back in heat 2 - ultimately rowing to victory.

Although the Sillence Hurn Sailors missed out on first place overall, the squad were thrilled to be part of such a fantastic event – fundraising for exceptional causes.

CRASH is the construction and property industry’s charity, founded to help fund homeless charities and hospices with their construction projects across the UK.

There’s still time to donate and you can visit our JustGiving page here.

Look out 2024, the Sillence Hurn Sailors will return…
